If you spend enough time vaping, you are eventually going to end up with e-juice in your mouth. It doesn’t matter if you just started vaping today or you’ve been vaping for years. There are going to be times when, for one reason or another, you go to take a drag from your e-cigarette and end up with a mouth full of e-juice.
This can happen for any number of reasons. In some cases, you will get e-juice in your mouth because you have overfilled your e-cigarette’s tank. In others, you will get e-juice in your mouth because you are attempting to inhale vapor too quickly from your e-cigarette. There are things you can do to try and avoid getting e-juice in your mouth, but as we just said, it’s just going to happen occasionally. It comes with the territory.
The good thing is that e-juice contains a bunch of ingredients that aren’t particularly harmful if you accidentally swallow them. Propylene glycol, or PG, and vegetable glycerin, or VG, are two of the main ingredients found in e-juices, and they are ingredients that are found in many kinds of food and other products.
You do want to be careful when it comes to swallowing too much e-juice at once, though, due to the nicotine in it. If you use an e-juice with a relatively small amount of e-juice, you won’t need to worry as much as you would have to if you use an e-juice with a higher dosage of nicotine. But either way, it’s never a good idea to swallow any amount of e-juice.
If you happen to accidentally swallow e-juice for any reason, it’s probably not the end of the world. But we realize that there are some new vapers out there who might be worried about what could potentially happen if they ingest e-juice. So here’s what you should do if you are ever in a situation where you accidentally swallow e-juice while vaping.
Determine How Much E-Juice You Swallowed
First things first: How much e-juice did you accidentally swallow? Chances are, it was a small amount of it. Often times, those who suck e-juice up through their e-cigarette only end up with a few drops in their mouth.
E-juice doesn’t taste particularly pleasant in most cases, so you should be able to get a good idea of how much you have swallowed, if any, when it ends up in your mouth. Obviously, you won’t know the exact amount, but you should be able to tell the difference between e-juice barely touching your tongue and e-juice getting all up in your mouth.
Regardless of how much e-juice you get in your mouth, you should spit it out if you can and then brush your teeth and use mouthwash to remove the bad taste from it. The key is getting it out of your mouth quickly so that you don’t accidentally swallow any of it or let it sit on your tongue or in another area of your mouth.
Keep an Eye Out for Any Potential Side Effects
If you suspect that you may have swallowed some e-juice, don’t panic. It’s really not the end of the world, and in most cases, you won’t even notice anything different. You may have to wait a little while to get the taste of it out of your mouth, but that will be the only side effect you notice.
That doesn’t mean that you should just ignore any other potential side effects that come along with it, though. After you swallow e-juice, you may feel lightheaded or nauseous. If you do, it’s a good idea to check with your doctor to see if you should take any action.
We are bringing this all up as a precautionary measure since most people won’t feel ill at all after swallowing a small amount of e-juice. But it doesn’t hurt to take the time to look for possible side effects. You know your body best and only you can determine if the e-juice had any effect on you.
Figure Out How the E-Juice Ended Up in Your Mouth in the First Place
Does everything appear to be okay? Once you have waited awhile and not seen any side effects after swallowing e-juice, you are likely in the clear. You should stop worrying about it and chalk it up as a valuable lesson in what not to do while vaping.
You should also do some digging around and figure out why you ended up with e-juice in your mouth in the first place. Was it because your tank was too full? Was it because you were holding your e-cigarette at a weird angle? Was it because your e-cigarette was leaking? There is a reason that you got e-juice in your mouth, and it’s your responsibility to find it.
If you don’t investigate the cause of the e-juice ending up in your mouth, there’s a pretty good chance that you are eventually going to end up with more in your mouth later. So take the time to find out the source of the e-juice leaking into your mouth and fix it. You will be glad that you did when you’re vaping like normal again.
Seek Medical Attention If You Want to Be on the Safe Side
The absolute last thing we want to do here is scare anyone, but we also don’t want one of your first vaping experiences to be ruined by a little bit of e-juice in your mouth. So if you are the type of person who worries a lot, it might be best for you to get medical attention if you have swallowed e-juice.
More often than not, a nurse or doctor will tell you that you have nothing to worry about. It will allow you to get back to vaping and figuring out how to vape without e-juice pouring into your mouth. It will also give you the peace of mind that comes along with a clean bill of health.
As we have said many times here, you don’t usually need to worry if you swallow a small amount of e-juice, even if you are using a higher nicotine level. But sometimes, it’s better to be safe than sorry, so if you feel ill at all after doing it, don’t hesitate to reach out for help.
