Choosing a Vape Device – How to Choose the Right Vape
When it comes to choosing a vape device, there’s never been more choice. From pod kits and sub-ohm devices to disposables and starter kits, these days the options are practically endless.
But although it’s good to have a variety of devices to pick from, if you’re new to the world of vaping or you’re just a little unfamiliar with the different types of devices and the range of benefits each of them brings then you might find things a tad confusing and struggle to find your ideal device.
If that sounds familiar then fear not as we’re here to help. Here we’ll list each type of device, along with its benefits, drawbacks, and the type of vaper it would suit best. Once you’ve read through this post, hopefully you’ll be armed with all the knowledge you need and choosing a vape that’s perfect for your needs will be a doddle.
Starter Kits
If you’re reading this post, chances are you’re new to vaping and you’re still a little unfamiliar with the various types of devices on offer. That’s why we’ll start off with starter kits because, as you’ve probably guessed, these are designed for those who are just starting out.
When you purchase a starter kit you’ll receive everything you need to begin your vaping journey, including an e-cigarette, e-liquid, charger and usually a spare coil. Once you’ve charged up your device, the simplicity of these kits means you should be ready to vape in minutes.
Starter kits are great for those with limited knowledge as the devices are simple to use and usually have minimal settings or features, which can be confusing for beginners. Although these limitations may be an issue once you’ve found your feet and want to customise your vaping experience a little more, starter kits are a great choice for beginners nonetheless.
Advantages:
·Really easy to use
·Come with everything you need to get started
·Great flavour
Drawbacks:
·Limited customisation
·Usually only compatible with plus-ohm coils which are great for flavour but not so great for cloud production
Would Suit:
Beginners or those looking for a simplified vaping experience who aren’t interested in “cloud-chasing”
Pod kit
Pod devices are all-in-one kits which are designed to be as user-friendly as possible.
Unlike other devices, with pod kits the device usually has an internal battery and a removable pod where the coil and e-liquid are located. On most pods the coil is built-in, although with some it may be removable.
When you’re using pod kits, you simply throw away the pod and replace it for a new one. This simplicity means that along with starter kits, pod devices are another great choice for inexperienced vapers.
Pod devices are also great if you’re someone who enjoys vaping a variety of flavours. That’s because unlike with a regular device where you’ll be forced to empty your tank and clean up your device, with pods you can swap your tank around in seconds.
With pod kits, you can also customise your vaping as they usually have more settings, and many devices take both sub-ohm and plus-ohm coils so you can change up your style of vaping whenever you please.
Advantages:
·User-friendly
·Allow you to switch up flavours in seconds
·More settings/customisation
·Some devices take both sub-ohm and plus-ohm coils
Drawbacks:
·Replacement pods can be slightly more expensive than regular coils
·If the pod has removable coils, along with replacing the coils you may also need to replace your pod every month or so
Would suit:
Pod kits are great for beginners due to their ease of use. Those who like to switch flavours without having to drain and clean their tank every time would also benefit from pod kits.
Sub-Ohm Kits
If you’re in search of a powerful device that’s capable of producing dense clouds of thick, tasty vapour, then a sub-ohm kit will hit the mark every single time.
These devices usually pack the most power, and more often than not they come with a range of settings which allow the user to customise their device to achieve their perfect vape.
Sub-ohm kits also guarantee great flavour and promise to deliver more nicotine per hit due to the abundance of vapour they produce.
Because of the range of settings they come with – as well as the powerful output which requires external batteries and, thus, an understanding of battery safety – many sub-ohm kits aren’t really recommended for those with limited knowledge and experience.
If you’re choosing a vape device, remember these are usually better-suited to people who’ve been vaping for a while and have an understanding of how to use batteries safely (for some info check out our guide to battery safety).
Advantages:
·Powerful devices that are great for “cloud-chasing”
·Highly customisable
·More vapour means great flavour
·Lots of options to choose from
Drawbacks:
·Use more e-liquid
·Coils can burn out quicker compared to low-power kits
·Require some knowledge so not always recommended for beginners
Would Suit:
Due to their powerful output, some sub-ohm kits are not recommended for beginners and are better-suited to those with a little more experience. They’re also ideal if you enjoy larger plumes of vapour and like to cussub tomise your vaping experience.
Disposable vapes
Disposable vapes are the latest devices to arrive on the scene, and it’s fair to say these pocket-friendly throw-away kits have taken the industry by storm.
Preloaded with e-liquid and arriving with a built-in, non-rechargeable battery, disposables have no confusing settings and most of them don’t even have an activation button – you just take the unit out the box and puff away.
With their manual draw, mouth-to-lung action, disposables are a great stop-smoking aid as they perfectly mimic smoking on a cigarette – the only difference is they taste great and they don’t contain any of the cancer-causing tar or carbon monoxide!
Disposables usually cost around £6 and last around a day or two, so although they don’t provide great value in the long run they allow people to try vaping without committing to a costlier kit.
As you’ve probably guessed then, disposables are a popular choice for those choosing a vape for the first time due to their ease of use, low price point and fantastic selection of flavours.
Advantages:
·Easy to use
·No maintenance
·Cheaper up-front cost
·Small and easy to conceal
Drawbacks:
·Not customisable
·Limited flavours (although flavours list growing all the time)
·Expensive in the long-run
·Not the most environmentally-friendly option
