When it comes to vape coils, many options are available, and it can be challenging to know which one will be right for you, especially if you’re a beginner vaper. Read on to find out everything you need to know about coils so that you can make an informed decision.
What are Vape Coils?
Coils, sometimes called atomisers, are part of the vaping device that heats the e-liquid and produces the vapour. A coil comprises a heating element, wicking material, and a casing that holds everything together.
Things to Know when Choosing Vape Coils
Ohms – all coils have an ohm specification, a measure of electrical resistance. The number of ohms is related to the amount of vapour produced. Coils with a low ohm specification will create more vapour and flavour. High ohm specifications produce less vapour and will have a more muted flavour.
Generally, most vapers will opt for coils with a specification between 2.4 and 2.8 ohms, with 2.5 ohms being the most popular choice.
The higher the ohm rating, the slower it will drain your vape pen battery, and this is something to keep in mind when choosing your coil. If you want your battery to last longer, you should try a higher-resistance ohm coil, as they don’t need high wattage settings and don’t drain the battery as much.
Sub-ohm vaping is when a coil with less than 1-ohm specification is used. This type of coil is usually something that experienced vapers use. This type of vaping produces huge vape clouds and will have an intense flavour. To use sub-ohm vaping, you’ll need a mod or battery compatible with low ohms coils.
Vape Coils rated below 1 ohm are also generally for direct-to-lung style vaping. This technique involves drawing vapour through your mouth, directly into the lungs, without holding it in your mouth.
Sub-ohm coils require far more significant amounts of power to create the large vape clouds and, as such, will require larger batteries or batteries to be charged or replaced more frequently. Again, this is important to keep in mind when making your choice.
When to Change my Vape Coils?
You’ll know it’s time to change your coil when your vape clouds become much smaller or if you can’t correctly taste the flavour from your chosen e-liquid. This is usually every two weeks or more frequently if you’re a heavy user of your e-cig.
How do I Replace the Coil?
Replacing vape coils is very simple. Just purchase a packet of replacement coils that are the right type for your e-cigarette make and model, remove the old one, and put the new one in place. To increase the longevity of your coil, we recommend priming your new coil before using it. To prime a new coil, simply fill your tank with e-liquid and leave it to stand for a few minutes before vaping. This will allow the cotton inside your new coil to absorb the e-liquid.
